Why Setting Goals Are Vital To Completing Your Thesis

“A goal properly set is halfway reached”. Zig Ziglar

So it’s a new year…how many of you made a New Year Resolution? Have you resolved to lose those extra pounds, to get in shape, or maybe run a marathon? According to U.S. News & World Report, 80 percent of New Year’s resolutions fail by February!

Goal Setting
“If you want to reach a goal, you must “see the reaching in your own mind” before you actually arrive at your goal.” Zig Ziglar

One reason why people fail at their resolutions or fail to accomplish (to complete, to finish entirely) something is because they do not set goals. If you want to accomplish something – you need to start by setting goals.

Top four reasons for setting goals:

  1. Setting goals give you focus. It is very easy to get overwhelmed – once you have clear, written goals, your mind starts to focus more on how to accomplish those goals. Setting goals helps you to determine what to spend your time and energy on.
  2. Setting goals allow you to measure your progress. Setting smaller goals that ultimately lead to your larger goal allows to you to see your progress.
  3. Setting goals creates accountability. Writing down your goals allows you to prioritize what you want to accomplish daily, monthly, or over the next year. This makes you responsible for your own success or failures.
  4. Setting goals give you motivation. Having meaningful goals to focus on can be motiving in itself. It gives you a reason to get going! As you accomplish smaller goals, you will be motivated to stay focused and complete each goal knowing it will lead you to accomplishing your ultimate goal.

The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never score” Bill Copeland
